the family cat "furthest from the sun" 1992

The long defunct English band is,to my mind, the finest one of the 90s,which is the period of their greatest activity. Never hitting the heights like their contemporaries Jesus Jones or other Happy Valley bands, they left the business frustrated by a lack of success.

  1. 90sIndieVeteran diz:

“Happy Valley”? eh? No-one ever called it that! And Family Cat were never seen as similar to or part of the same scene as Jesus Jones- that was bands like EMF and, at a stretch, PWEI. Family Cat were more studenty-indie, a friend of mine loved them along with stuff like Kingmaker and the Wedding Present. He HATED Jesus Jones et al. Very different ends of the 90's indie spectrum, if you ignore 'Liquidiser' which was the only 'indie' record JJ did before going pop and wearing their baseball caps sideways like twats.
